Fernandez and Calvo Beat Sanchez and Ustero in Dusseldorf
Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo won Sunday's final of the P2 in Dusseldorf 6-3, 6-0. Seven days earlier, the pair they beat had taken the top two seeds in Rotterdam.
The lead note
In Dusseldorf on Sunday, Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo beat Ariana Sanchez and Andrea Ustero 6-3, 6-0 in the final of the P2. It took 1 hour 8 minutes. The semi-finals had gone the other way entirely: Fernandez and Calvo came through Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaria 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 in 3 hours 7 minutes, and Sanchez and Ustero beat Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in 2 hours 56 minutes, which is 6 hours and 3 minutes of padel between the two matches by our own addition of the International Padel Federation's durations.
Calvo, in the Federation's Spanish report: "Ayer jugamos durante tres horas y hoy ha bastado una, pero nuestro enfoque ha seguido siendo jugar punto a punto." In our English: "Yesterday we played for three hours and today one was enough, but our focus stayed the same, to play point by point."
Our edition of 6 October led on Sanchez and Ustero beating the top seeds and then the second seeds on consecutive days in Rotterdam. Seven days later they lost a final 6-3, 6-0. Both halves of that are documented and the join between them is ours, not the Federation's. The draws do not line up either. In Rotterdam they beat Brea and Triay, then Josemaria and Gonzalez, and neither pair was across the net from them on Sunday.
Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia won the men's final 6-2, 7-6 against Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, in 1 hour 23 minutes. The Federation makes it three tournaments in a row for them, after the Major in Paris and Rotterdam. Stupaczuk and Sanz have now lost two finals to the same pair in seven days, which is our count from the Federation's two reports rather than a figure it prints.
At home
A FIP Silver was played at Stratford Padel Club in London from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October, and Aimee Gibson went into the women's draw seeded second, five days after she retained her national title in Bristol. We could not establish who won it from what had been published by Monday morning. The brackets we could see did not resolve, the one results page that came up for Stratford was last year's, and a champion printed from either of those would be a guess with a name attached to it. When there is a published result we will carry it.
The week ahead
The P1 in Milan opens today at the Allianz Cloud and runs to Sunday 18 October. Both pairs beaten in Dusseldorf go into it near the top of the draw: Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, who lost the semi-final, are the women's first seeds, and Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, who lost theirs, are the men's second.
The last two places at the FIP World Cup are decided in Kuwait, from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October: one in the women's draw and one in the men's. The World Cup itself is in Doha from Monday 2 to Saturday 7 November. The UK Padel Convention is on Wednesday 4 November, at The Padel Club, Gloucester Quays.

How this was compiled. Dusseldorf is from the International Padel Federation's Spanish finals release of 11 October, read in the Spanish original, which gives both finals, the scores, the durations and Calvo's words, and, for the semi-finals, its Day 5 report, listed 11 October; the dates of the main draw are from the Federation's event page. The six hours and three minutes is our sum of the Federation's two durations, and the two finals lost in seven days is our count from its Rotterdam and Dusseldorf releases. Rotterdam itself is from our edition of 6 October. Stratford is from the Federation's preview of 8 October and its event page, both of which are previews; we found no results release for it. The Milan dates, venue and seedings are from the Federation's draws piece of 10 October. Kuwait is from the Federation's release of 22 September, and Doha from its release of 26 September. The UK Padel Convention is from the organiser's own registration page. All pages read on 12 October 2026. --- # APPARATUS (not copy; must not travel into `asc-site/`)
