Where we change something we have already published, and why.

How this works

Every amendment is listed here, newest first, one entry each: date, piece, section and issue, the words before and the words after, and one sentence on how it got through. Nothing is ever removed from this index, and the amended words are quoted in full, not described, so a reader can see what was on the page without taking our word for it. On the affected piece, a dated amendment note sits at the foot, and the copy above it is changed openly rather than swapped in silence.

A factual error is always amended, whatever its size and whoever noticed it, and so is an over-precision, where our copy is more specific than the source it rests on. A matter of interpretation is not an amendment, and neither is a judgement a reader disagrees with. Typographical and house-style fixes go unrecorded.

Telling us about an error

If you think something we have published is wrong, tell us. Write to editors@alboransocialclub.com with the piece and the passage in question. We acknowledge every complaint within two working days and reply in full within ten, either with an amendment listed below or with our reasons for letting the copy stand. You do not have to be the subject of a piece to raise an error with us, and we ask for nothing in any particular form.

The words before: "Natividad Lopez Diaz went into Sunday's women's final at the FIP Bronze in Barcelona El Prat with a record already in her name. FIP's own headline calls her the Cupra FIP Tour's most successful woman, the first to eight titles on it. The eighth came at Mondeville in January 2025, alongside Aida Martinez Sanjuan, who partnered her again this week. The pair came through the main draw without dropping a set. She won it from a set down, beating Carmen Castillon Gamez and Maria Laura Ferreyra 2-6, 7-6, 6-4."

How it got through: We printed a 19-month-old headline superlative in the present tense, beside a record clause of our own, on the day FIP's release described the record as shared. Of the words before, only "most successful woman" is in the headline of FIP's release of 13 January 2025. "The first to eight titles" is that release's body wording, which our copy set beside the headline's as though the two said the same thing, and "with a record already in her name" was ours. The body says only that she had become the first woman to eight titles on the tour, with several men on eight and Jairo Bautista on nine. FIP's release from El Prat on 17 August 2026, the day the edition published, gave her 15 titles, "a record she shares with Leti Manquillo". Our copy was stronger than its source and older than it read, and a factual error is always amended. The record clause has been removed, not reworded, and the next sentence now follows the January body. The same passage said the pair came through the main draw without dropping a set, one sentence before the score that shows otherwise. FIP's page for the event schedules the final as part of the main draw, and its release of 17 August 2026 gives that final as 2-6 7-6 6-4. That was a factual error in our copy, and the sentence has been deleted. The final, the score, the opponents and her partner are unchanged. This is the second amendment to this edition.

The words after: "The story behind LevelTech's Innovate UK grant, from a programme with a roughly 1.5% success rate."
How it got through: Two of our own records give the grant a different value, one £350,000 and the other £360,000, and we have not been able to settle which is right. We printed the more precise of the two as though it were established. Where our copy is more specific than the source it rests on, this policy treats that as an amendment, so the figure is removed rather than guessed at. The grant, the programme and the success rate are unchanged. The company's name is also corrected to its own styling, LevelTech, which is a house-style fix and would not otherwise be recorded here.

The words before: "Taranto comes next. Padel enters the Mediterranean Games programme as a medal sport for the first time, with competition running from 22 to 28 August: 136 athletes from 18 Mediterranean national federations, in men's, women's and mixed events."

How it got through: FIP's release of 16 July gives the figure as "136 total participants". Our copy said athletes, which is more specific than the source it rested on, and this policy treats an over-precision as an amendment. FIP has since published a different figure again, 88 athletes from 18 nations, in its releases of 15 and 19 August. We cannot reconcile the two from the releases alone and have not guessed at which count includes coaches and officials; Edition №5 sets both out. The dates, the federation count and Athletica Vaticana's status as a guest are unchanged.

How it got through: FIP's own account says only that they met at the club, and which building they sat in is documented nowhere we could find. The date, the city, the club and the three founding associations are unchanged.
